The Next Episode

“This is just a small introduction to the G Funk Era.”

So I’m back.

Where to start? Well, there was this guy Andy, who used to write a lot on this thing called the “Internet.” Then he had some personal issues, lost his mojo, and disappeared. You could still read his thoughts in a few places, but they were mostly confined to small snippets of snark. The longer, (hopefully) better-written pieces stopped being posted. Unhappy with this, Andy decided to take some time to revamp his page. He registered a domain name, did some work on a WordPress template, and hired an excellent artist to create an illustration. And here we are.

This isn’t a fancy website. In fact, the goal was to create something quite the opposite. I wanted something clean and simple. I wanted a central location from which to find my work, some visuals that encapsulated a personal identity, and a place to start writing again. That’s it. No more, nothing less.

I’ve broken the page down into two sections. The top navigation bar features a bio, interests and likes, a graphic of my personal philosophy, and contact info for anyone interested in employing my services. The secondary navigation bar links to the blog, my iPhoneography, my pensées, and some recent projects I have been involved in. Essentially, the top bar is biographical and professional, while the secondary bar is creative.

Still working on a name for this fella.

Mike Kendrick created the wonderful illustration featured throughout the web page (and seen to the left). I can’t thank him enough for taking my simple suggestions and going to a whole new level with them. If you want to know more about his process, Mike has an excellent post up on his blog. I also need to thank Christine Osinchuk, who helped me take Mike’s illustration and make it work on the landing page. Thank you also to Kiri Wysynski, Karen Unland, Zoe Todd, and Vanessa Grabia for the helpful feedback. I feel very fortunate to be friends with (and husband to) such smart, talented women.

Quite a few people have asked me what I plan on writing about on my blog. The answer is, “I don’t know.” I imagine I’ll write about everything. Pop culture, politics, sports, philosophy, books. I’m sure I’ll write some poetry, and there’ll probably be some personal memoir stuff in there, too. I have plans to do a podcast, as well. In the end, however, I’m just excited to be writing again. It doesn’t matter what I write, as long as I’m writing. The iPhoneography and pensées will stay on their own Tumblrs, because that’s where I like them. I see them as self-contained projects different from what I want to accomplish on the main blog. But I’m not going to stray away. Everything will be reachable from this site.

And that’s about it.  Let the revelry begin.

“No matter where you go, you are what you are, player.”
